I frequently receive questions on how I do my Instagram Photos. These questions come from anonymous followers or friends on what app or filter I use, what camera do I work with and how I customize my settings. It took me quite some time to figure out my “signature” treatment for my feed, but I finally found this one that works for my personality and style; clean, white and defined images.
I’ve usually been hushed about how I exactly compose my images, but as requested and promised, here is a quick tutorial on how you can achieve my Stark White Editing in three simple steps!
STEP I: Shooting Your Image
In order to have good outputs it is necessary to have a good raw photo to begin with. I shoot my photos in white daylight, meaning when the sun’s light is not too warm or yellowish. I don’t use artificial lighting, natural light is always the best. I shoot my objects either on any white surface such as white table, white sheets, white wall but if you don’t have any of these a sufficient size of an illustration board or white cartolina will do!
Majority of my photos are only shot by my iPhone 5s.
I’ll detail and give tips on how you to compose and shoot your images on my next post!
STEP II: Editing Your Image
I’ve been frequently asked what apps I use for editing, it is just simply VSCOCAM and I just use SNAPSEED when I feel like it still requires.
My default filter for my stark white photos is SE3 or STREET ETIQUETTE. This is a filter pack I downloaded from VSCO’s filter store. It usually desaturates the image initially, but I still adjust the settings to achieve the treatment I want.
There are six adjustments I normally make:
1. Exposure– increase to desired level.
2. Temperature– decrease it to the blue-ish tones to balance the warmness of the preset of SE3.
3. Contrast– increase to maximize the difference between the darks and the lights of the image.
4. Tint– increase to the purple-ish tint to minimize the remaining warmness of the photo.
5. Saturation– increase since SE3 usually desaturates the original image.
6. Sharpness– increase to define the image.

Step III: SNAPSEED
I use Snapseed to specifically adjust parts of an image when I feel like there is a need to. I usually just use the “SELECTIVE ADJUST” feature to target those specific spots I want to fix.
Tip: Always adjust according to how you feel. Be free to edit according to what your senses call for, these are just guidelines on how I normally do the style of my photos, I hope it also helps you in creating your own signature treatment!
